What is Installed and Where:

1) A copy of the preference pane will be installed at /Library/PreferencePanes/LookingGlass.prefPane, this file allows you to set any changes you want to make to how the program runs.

2) A folder called "DFSW" will be installed into /Library/Application Support/ This file contains the applications needed to run Looking Glass in the background. One of the files in this folder will also be added to the login items for the current user.

*To un-install simply delete these 2 items.

How to Use:

1) After installation you can access Looking Glass by clicking on the Apple Menu in the upper left hand corner of your screen. Select the menu item labeled "System Preferences. This will open a new window. In the last row is an icon labeled "Looking Glass", open this to access Looking Glass.

2) Make sure it says "Looking Glass Active" in the upper left hand corner, if it does not click the "Activate" button.

3) You can now select a webcam from the list or add your own custom webcam with the "+" symbol.

4) To preview your selected webcam hit the "Force Refresh Now" button. Your selected webcam will load and display as the background picture. Depending on the size of the file and your internet connection this may take a couple of minutes.

5) Once you have picked a webcam that you want to use set the timer in the upper right hand corner and hit "Set Rate". Once you click on "Set Rate" you can quit "System Preferences". The desktop changes will take place in the background. If you need to change any settings return to Looking Glass.

Reporting New or Broken Web-cams:

If you have selected the "Submit my Custom Webcams" option your custom webcams will be sent to our servers. If we approve them they will be added to our database.

If you find that a webcam is no longer working please let our support team know so we can either fix it or remove it from the list. You can reach Dragon Forged support at www.dragonforged.com/contact.htm

Trouble Shooting:

DO THIS FIRST: Open the preference pane and click refresh now and see if you get any errors, Looking Glass will not display errors when running in the background so this will let you know if there are any problems that you can easily resolve.

Q: Why does the desktop image appear blurry?

A: Looking Glass relies on the quality of image downloaded from the web-cam, some will be better then others. The image will be placed on your desktop as either centered or stretch to fit. You can change these options in your desktop preferences in the system preferences display.

Q: Why does the desktop picture appear to be all black?

A: Some of the web-cams are in the outdoors in areas without artificial lights at night. You are most likely looking at a picture taken at night, try using a different web-cam at night hours.

Q: Why am I not seeing a new desktop image when I refresh?

A: You most likely are refreshing the image faster then the web-cam can update, try setting the refresh rate slower or choosing a web-cam with a faster refresh rate.

Q: Why am I getting errors when I use a custom web-cam?

A: The image you are using most likely does not have a static name. This means that each time the web-cam updates it gives you a new image name. Looking Glass does not support this format currently and you will be unable to use this web-cam. Insure you are using the full address (http://www.webpage.com/webcam.jpg).

Q: Looking Glass does not appear to be working at all, Looking Glass only updates when i hit the refresh button.

A: Make sure Looking Glass is active, you can activate it with the button in the upper left of the Looking Glass controls.

Q: The "Set Now" Button is not active/greyed out.

A: Make sure Looking Glass is active, you can activate it with the button in the upper left of the Looking Glass controls.

Q: Why can I no longer activate my copy of Looking Glass

A: Your 14 day trial period is over, you can still manually refresh the image if you wish but you wont be able to run it in the background till you register at www.dragonforged.com
